What is an Easter Basket?

In our household, an Easter Basket is the gift that the Easter Bunny gives the kids and is an alternative to a chocolate based Easter-egg hunt.

I have 3 children aged 5 & under and we try very hard to ensure that refined sugars are not part of their diet... which can make Easter a little tricky, as there is a huge focus on chocolate themed gifts at Easter time!

How & when do the kids get their Easter Basket?

When the children wake up on Easter Sunday, we all head downstairs together and the kids find an egg hunt has been left in the back garden.

The Easter Bunny scatters eggs (we use a variety of colourful wooden painted eggs - like these here) across the back garden which act as a path to lead the children to their individual Easter themed-baskets. They each have a little basket in their hand to collect the eggs in as they go. There is so much excitement around finding the eggs and it is such a joy-filled activity.

The path ends at their Easter Baskets which are normally slightly hidden to add to the fun of the hunt.

Our Easter baskets are a mindful curation of gifts - I am sure to include items that they will need for the upcoming change of season (winter PJs and slippers as we are in Australia), a keepsake hand-knit doll, plus a few other fun toys, craft items and books.
